The sweet potato is packed full of vital minerals and vitamins we all need for living a healthy life. They are one of the best, if not the best, source of Vitamin A for our diet and can provide kids with up to 90% of their daily Vitamin A needs. The good thing about sweet potatoes is that they can be grown all around the world and are often available year round. Originally they are from Central and South America but as soon as Columbus brought them back to Europe they began spreading to all over the world. Actually the sweet potato is one of the oldest vegetables known, even prehistoric people loved them! As well as their rich nutritional value they also contain important antioxidants and have anti-inflammatory capabilities. (To read more) . While steaming is the best way to prepare the sweet potato to retain the highest nutritional value here are some of their flavor affinities (that may not be as healthy): 

  • sweet potatoes + apples + sage
  • sweet potatoes + bacon + onions + rosemary
  • sweet potatoes + cilantro + lime juice
  • sweet potatoes + kale + prosciutto 
  • sweet potatoes + chile peppers + lemon zest 
  • sweet potatoes + maple syrup + pecans
