SNAP: Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program
There are many positives to buying your groceries here at the Market with your SNAP dollars. Not only is there a huge variety of produce and other food available but you can be sure that the food is healthy and nutritious for you and your family. It is easy to redeem your SNAP tokens at the front desk and the vendors are friendly and ready to answer any of your questions. If you aren’t sure what SNAP is or if you are eligible please follow this link and find more resources through Virginia Hunger Solutions.
The Lynchburg Community Market offers a token program that allows SNAP beneficiaries the opportunity to shop for fresh, local, fruits, vegetables, meat, cheese, and any other eligible items right here at the Market. The SNAP card is swiped for a dollar amount at the customer service window, and the recipient is given tokens that can be redeemed with eligible vendors at the Market. The tokens can be spent Tuesday-Saturday from 7 am – 2 pm. There is no limit to the number of tokens that can be used at the Market.
Father’s Cafe & Bakery and Grains of Sense Coffee Roastery also accept tokens throughout the week for eligible items. Many of the local produce and food vendors accept SNAP tokens on Wednesdays, with the largest and best variety of SNAP eligible items being sold on Saturdays throughout the year. SNAP tokens can be purchased at the Customer Service Window on both Wednesdays and Saturdays, beginning at 9:00 am on Wednesdays, and 7:00 am on Saturdays.
In 2018, the Market was awarded a federal grant to match SNAP transactions up to $25, dollar-for-dollar. This means you can swipe your SNAP card for up to $25 and get an additional $25 to spend on fresh fruits and vegetables!
To know who accepts who accepts SNAP tokens please look for the SNAP sign at vendor booths, and receive a complete list of vendors at the Customer Service Window or visit our Vendor Pages.
