Are you wanting a local substitution for pumpkin pie? Yes, pumpkin pie may be a staple of Thanksgiving but the thing is it’s just really difficult to make from all local ingredients. In comes the sweet potato pie: creamy, sweet, and spiced just right! Martha Stewart’s recipe, Sweet-Potato Pie with Cornmeal Crust is what I decided to try but there are plenty of others out there. The great thing about this recipe is that not only can the sweet potatoes be purchased locally but also the main ingredients for the curst, yellow cornmeal, white flour, eggs and butter. Getting freshly ground flour at the market really makes such a difference in how the finished product tastes so it doesn’t matter what you’re making this holiday season be sure to get your flour at Wildflour Mill inside the market (open on Saturdays). Crusts can be a pain to make but once you take that first bite you’ll be glad you did. So head on over to Martha Stewarts website and look around for other pies or Thanksgiving dishes that could easily use local ingredients and head down to the market for our Wednesday Market tomorrow which will be open until 4pm!
