Sergei Troubetzkoy
If you’ve been to the market before chances are you’ve seen Sergei, who is our Tourism Director for Lynchburg. He is always downtown and more than likely at the market. He’s doing a great job promoting our city and here’s what he had to say about his love for local food:
What do you like best about coming to the market? Seeing what fresh local produce is available along with the day’s offerings at Lorraine Bakery.
Why do you choose to eat local food? It supports local producers and tastes better because it is fresher and often free of pesticides!
What’s your favorite fruit and/or vegetable? And why? This is a favorite time of the year when fresh berries are in season. I love mixing fresh berries —-blueberries, raspberries, blackberries and strawberries along with melons or peaches. Nothing better than fresh, local berries and fruit.
What are you going to make this week with your local produce? Ratatouille. This is a dish that you really cannot produce successfully during other times of the year because the ingredients really need to be fresh and local for the dish to really taste right….so now is the time when all of the major ingredients for Ratatouille are in season: Tomatoes, eggplant, onions, garlic, green peppers, zucchini and fresh herbs such as basil, thyme, rosemary, oregano and parsley. Right now, one can purchase 100% of the ingredients needed for this dish…including the olive oil…at the Lynchburg’s Community Market.
