IMG_3750July is here and summer produce is in full swing! This past Wednesday marked the beginning of our “producers only” season for Green Market Wednesdays (10am-2pm). What exactly does “producers only” mean? This means that the farmers who come on Wednesdays sell only the vegetables, fruits, meats, dairy and a variety of artisan foods that they have raised or made themselves. Although Green Market Wednesday has been going for a couple months now, the “producers only” months are July through the end of September.

We are excited to welcome four new area farmers to Green Market Wednesdays: Turnip the Beets Farm out of Gladstone, One Way Farms out of Java, Great Day Gardens out of Forest, and Wild Roots Farm out of Chatham.

Need more to love about Green Market Wendesdays? With smaller crowds and a calmer atmosphere, Wednesday is the perfect time to meet your farmers and talk to them about their produce. Find out how they grow their vegetables, chat with them about what they will have in the coming weeks, and even make requests for future crops. You might also find some unique produce items on Wednesdays that you can’t get on Saturdays, which is super exciting.

And of course, by buying the food produced right here in our region, you are supporting your local community. What’s not to love about that?

Come on down during your lunch break, grab a bite to eat at one of our restaurants, and pick up some fantastic locally grown produce. See you at the market!

*Don’t forget: if you can’t make it between 10am-2pm on Wednesdays you can still get great produce (a lot of it local) at our Saturday market, 7am – 2pm.
