Featured Artisan: Dee Tinsley of Dee’s Designs

Dee’s love for stones began at the age of three when her father, a native of New Carlisle, Indiana, took her on a visit home which included beautiful Lake Michigan. While there, he picked up a pint jar of sand into which he placed two rocks, one grey and one black in the shape of a heart, that still sits on her dresser to this day. From that day forward, they enjoyed a love of gemstones together, mining often on the weekends and perpetually looking down to find more treasures. When Dee married Bill, she relocated to Amherst County and met Jean Midkiff who introduced her to the Lynchburg Gem and Mineral Club. The rest, as she says, is history! Dee finds herself at her absolute happiest when she is digging atop a pile of dirt in a quarry.
