Each week, we will feature a different Lynchburg Locavore and find out why eating local is so important to them.

Willis Mang

Willis Mang is a young hip lynchburg Locavore. He loves shopping at the Lynchburg Community Market because eating good organic food is really important to him. Originally from upstate New York he has found his home in the hills of Virginia.

Here’s what he had to say:

What do you like best about coming to the market?
I really enjoy getting to know the farmers and knowing where my food comes from. I like to come here with my friends and hang out, it’s a great community to be a part of.

Why do you choose to eat local food?
Eating good organic food is really important to me. Also I really like the feeling of spending my money locally instead of buying my food at Wal-mart. Instead of feeling like I’m paying money into a deep black hole I know my money is being kept in this area when I pay the farmers.

What’s your favorite fruit or vegetable? And why?
Definitely the sweet potato! It’s so versatile and I like to use it in as many dishes as I can whether it be desserts or a stir-fry.

What are you going to make when you get home today?
A potato, onion, squash stir-fry. I make a lot of stir-fries.
