We Got The Beet! So does Jason Long of Favored Flavors!

In conjunction with the start of our We Got the Beet Kids & Adult Program Series, the Locavore Demo features everyone’s favorite root vegetable (okay, at least OUR favorite root vegetable).

Some KEY POINTS about Beets from Eat Smart, Move More include: 

  • Beets are a good source of folate and manganese.
  • When shopping, choose beets with firm, smooth skins and nonwilted leaves, if still attached. The smaller the beet, the more tender it is!
  • Golden beets have a sweeter and milder flavor than red beets.

  • Remove leaves, leaving about 1 inch of the stems, and use as greens – raw or cooked!
  • Store beet roots in a perforated plastic bag in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks.
